Paraguay is the latest to join the Global Accelerator as a pathfinder country. The country confirmed its move on Monday, when Paraguay’s Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Mrs. Mónica Recalde de Giacomi met with ILO Director General. Dr. Gilbert F. Houngbo.

During the meeting, the Minister presented Paraguay’s written commitment to officially become a pathfinder country of the Global Accelerator. The commitment is the result of national consultations between 2023 and 2024 on the relevance and potential of the Accelerator to help Paraguay accelerate its progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals through the expansion of social protection and the creation of productive and decent employment opportunities in the green and digital economies, including for women and youth.

The Government of Paraguay is devising a Global Accelerator roadmap to achieve national priorities, including generating 500,000 jobs by 2028 with a special emphasis on supporting sustainable enterprises, public employment services, vocational training, and investments in sustainable projects.
