News Release |

The government of the Republic of Cabo Verde has officially confirmed its interest to join the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions aiming to create synergies between integrated policy solutions, increase investments, and improve multilateral cooperation on decent jobs and universal social protection.

The official expression of interest, signed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Cabo Verde, Olavo Correira, and the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security of Portugal, Ana Mendes Godinho, was sent to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the UN Resident Coordinator Patricia Portela de Souza, to formally state Cabo Verde interest to become a pathfinder country with the support of Portugal.

The support from the Portuguese government will focus on capacity building and skills development, especially in strategic areas such as youth employability, digitalization, energy transitions, civil construction, metalworking, and tourism.

Following the official commitment, the UN Country team in Cabo Verde will organize consultations with national stakeholders including the government, social partners, international financial institutions, and other development partners to discuss how the initiative can contribute to the national priorities and accelerate employment creation and social protection towards the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The national consultations will enable the development of a national roadmap that will set the direction and define the entry points for the implementation of the Global Accelerator in the country.
