Democratic Republic of the Congo officially becomes a pathfinder country of the Global Accelerator

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has confirmed its commitment to join the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions aiming to stimulate economic recovery and ecological transition by addressing the national challenges related to employment creation and social protection.

The official expression of interest, signed by the Minister of Planning, Omana Bitika Pascal, was sent to the UN Resident Coordinator, Bruno Lemarquis, on 4 April 2024 to formally state the country’s interest to align the Global Accelerator objectives in accordance with the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) for 2021-2024.

The initiative will also support other government programmes related to youth employment, universal health coverage, and the promotion of decent job opportunities.

Following the official commitment, the government through the Minister of Planning, will coordinate consultations with national stakeholders to enable the development of a national roadmap that will set the direction for the implementation of the Accelerator in the country.

The Global Accelerator is a UN initiative that aims to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals by supporting the creation of decent jobs and extending social protection to people who are currently excluded. It brings together Member States, UN agencies, international financial institutions, public development banks, social partners, civil society, and the private sector to create a virtuous cycle of sustainable development that positively impacts the lives of millions of people around the world and facilitates the transition to a resilient, sustainable, and inclusive world.
