Viet Nam strongly committed to becoming a pathfinder country of the Global Accelerator

On 24 November 2023, the Central Executive Committee of the Viet Nam Communist Party issued the Party Resolution No 42-NQ/TW. This high-level document intends to renovate and improve the quality of social policies in Viet Nam. At the same time, it also formalizes the clear will of the country to become a pathfinder country of the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions.

The new resolution emphasizes the importance of social investments to improve decent work opportunities and social protection, especially for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups. International cooperation will play a key role in the investments in terms of resources and expertise to successfully implement national social policies that leave no one behind. 

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that “the new resolution clearly defines the overall goals of Viet Nam by 2030, encouraging all social policy stakeholders to continue to build a social policy system that is sustainable, integrated, comprehensive, and inclusive.”

On 17 January, on the sideline of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Gilbert F. Houngbo, to discuss Viet Nam’s ​​cooperation with the ILO and the country’s support for the United Nations' Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection for Just Transitions. This was the second time they have met, the first being during the ILO Director-General's official visit to Viet Nam in June 2023.
